Clint Eastwood is a popular and adored actor and filmmaker. His well-known performances and political activity have earned him multiple cinematic awards, solidifying his reputation as a masculine figure.
The 89-year-old star does not make a big issue about his personal life, although he has had several romances. He is married twice and has seven children.
However, Eastwood just offered a story that connects him to one of his best-known films, about which he has remained mute for many years. In 1930, amid the height of the Great Depression, San Francisco saw the birth of Hollywood’s longest-running movie star. He’s got a younger sister.
Because of his father’s work in the steel business, the family moved frequently. Named Samson, he weighed an incredible 11 pounds, 6 ounces at birth. He finally grew to 6 feet, 4 inches tall.
He moved to Seattle after graduating high school and worked as a lifeguard until joining the American Army in 1950.
However, many people are unaware that, at the age of 21, Eastwood was a passenger on a World War II navy jet that crashed in the Pacific.
“I was catching a free ride from Seattle down to Almeda,” Eastwood explained in an interview.
“It was stormy, and we went down off Point Reyes, California, in the Pacific.” I found myself in the ocean, swimming a few miles to shore. I remember thinking, ‘Well, 21 is not as long as a person wishes to live.'”
After swimming for hours through kelp beds in the Pacific, Eastwood made it to land and ascended a hill to issue a distress call.
This knowledge came in handy when he directed the biographical drama Sully: Miracle on the Hudson, starring Tom Hanks, in 2016.
The highly praised video chronicles US Airways Flight 1549’s 2009 emergency Hudson River landing, in which all 155 passengers and crew members survived.
In the film, Captain Chesley “Sully” Sullenberger, who was subsequently overridden by his superiors, made the snap decision to land the plane in the cold Hudson River.
“I suppose if I had been in a similar situation as the pilot, I would have taken a chance on a water landing rather than go somewhere where there is no runway,” Eastwood told The Telegraph.
Sully was familiar with the region. He chose the ideal location… “He knew someone would see them,” he said.
