Adam Brody shares the secret to his 10-year marriage to Leighton Meester

Adam Brody made the correct choice in marrying Leighton Meester.

On Tuesday, September 24, the 44-year-old O.C. veteran went on Today with Hoda and Jenna to promote his new Netflix comedy, Nobody Wants This.

While discussing the romcom, which stars Kristen Bell, Hoda Kotb, and Jenna Bush, Hager prompted their guest to speak up about his own long-term romance.

“We should point out, you’ve been married for 10 years,” Hoda, 60, stated before asking Brody, “What’s the magic of your relationship?”

“Oh, choose someone excellent.” Be lucky, fall in love with someone great, and then just listen to them,” he said.

His response appeared to touch an emotional place with Bush Hager, 42, who replied, “I love that.”

“If you’re with someone great, you’re on third base,” Brody said. “Not that it doesn’t require sacrifice and humility, but you must develop together and be willing to progress, as you will not be able to stay completely where you are,” Brody said. But if you’re with someone amazing, I believe you’re on third base.”

In 2014, Brody tied the knot with the 38-year-old Gossip Girl star. Since then, the couple has welcomed two children into their family: a 9-year-old daughter named Arlo and a 4-year-old son whose name remains undisclosed.

Brody also discussed his and Meester’s parenting approach on Today, including whether he was a “helicopter” dad or the leader of a “free-range” family.

“Of course, I’m going to feel like it’s the perfect balance of all of it,” he said of being both.

Brody stated that he and Meester are “honest” and “have some very truthful conversations” with their children, “for better or worse.” However, he does not consider himself or his wife to be “overly strict.”

“There is a helicopter, you know, to keep them safe,” he told me. “I’m not overly meticulous, but I genuinely notice the sharp edges.” And their skulls won’t… I want to preserve their skulls intact.”

Brody spoke on Dax Shepard’s Armchair Expert podcast on September 16, sharing insights into the nuances of his and Meester’s working relationship.

The politician said, “Everything runs through each other.”

“We are each other’s managers, and we share the same two agents… We are in each other’s s— in that regard, and we even made a movie together a few years ago,” Brody said, alluding to the pair’s 2023 adventure drama River Wild.

He characterized his wife as “charmingly aloof to the business,” saying that the veteran actress does not often recognize the names of the top performers. Nonetheless, Brody claims “it doesn’t diminish her art.”

“She’s a poet; she has depth and reads material that is always illuminating, and she has a great radar,” he said, admiring her abilities.
