High-quality Terry towels have a long lifespan, sometimes up to a few decades. This household item may be the longest-lasting in the home.
But you still want to buy new ones because they’re so beautiful! How should you handle old ones in excellent condition?
This shouldn’t pose any difficulty. Old Terry towels make excellent floorcloths because they are clean and absorb water efficiently. You can also use them for washing and wiping windows. Old towels can serve as a cap if you dye your hair at home.
You can place an old towel on the bathroom floor as a mat for your feet, or you can use it when wallpapering.
Additionally, Terry towels are a wonderful material for making various household items. You can use them to create potholders, tiny kitchen napkins, mop covers, sponges, rugs, mats, and more. Use the parts of the towel that are the least worn.
Today, I want to show you how to make a bath mat out of an old towel and a matching Terry bathrobe. You can use any color for this mat.
You can sew it uniquely, using even the smallest fabric scraps. You can make the mat with a needle and thread, eliminating the need for a sewing machine.
So, here’s the process:
You need to cut rectangular pieces that are 8 by 10 cm in size. The longer the piece, the thicker the mat will be.
Roll them into little rolls and stitch them so they don’t come undone. You can make as many as you like; I ended up with 84 pieces in two colors. Cut out the mat’s base from the leftover fabric, onto which you will sew the rolls.
The key is to sew the first row evenly. After that, the process will go quickly.
You can decorate the mat with pom-poms: cut circles with a diameter of 6 cm, gather them, and pull them tight. Put small fabric scraps inside for volume.
The result is a thick, resilient, soft, and fluffy mat.
The terry rolls provide a massaging effect for your feet. I didn’t spend a single penny on this mat, only my time and effort. But it’s worth it because hand-made items have souls.
