“Was he now showing his true colors?” she wondered. “No, not my Richard,” she stated. Tina told herself that he still needed some time to comprehend things, and that she should be patient. The next day, Richard returned home intoxicated and unexpectedly booted Tina out of their apartment. “Tina, get out!” “If I see you here again, we’ll have a problem!” he said. Tina did not resist him but instead departed, believing Richard would come to his senses later. Tina returned to the flat a few days later, only to find that Richard had changed the locks. She then contacted Richard’s parents, and the discussion left Tina devastated. “Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Tinney.” I was attempting to contact Richard. “We recently…” Tina attempted to clarify before abruptly ending the call.
“You have so much nerve, young girl! Mrs. Tinney replied, “Calling after everything you’ve done to Richy!” “Me? I apologize; I’m not sure I understand. Please… I’m not sure what you’ve heard, but let me clarify… Tina attempted to clarify before experiencing another interruption. “We’ve heard about everything! How did you cheat on him and become pregnant with another man’s child? Mrs. Tinney shouted, “Don’t ever call here again, or we’ll sue the eyelashes off you!” Tina knew immediately that she and her unborn child were on their own. Years passed, and Tina took it upon herself to raise her child with whatever love and strength she still had. Her son, Greg, made it easier for her. While Tina battled to make ends meet, Greg’s knowledge of their problems and readiness to assist and pitch in took some of the pressure off her. Tina has always been open with her kid about what happened between his father and her. Greg was thankful to his mother for all of her efforts, and he worked alongside her to put food on the table. When he was 15 years old, Greg added his first ball at the local golf club. While he began working at an early age, he never allowed it to interfere with his education. Greg was never the smartest in his studies, but he had developed an exceptional work ethic. Greg ultimately graduated from high school with honors and soon started his own business with the money he had earned from his employment. Tina was quite proud of the person Greg was becoming. However, she was concerned about Greg’s growing resentment of his estranged father. Greg seldom said much, but whenever his father or the concept of fatherhood came up in discussion, Tina couldn’t help but notice the furious look in her son’s eyes.
Greg’s business increased throughout the years, and it is performing better by the day. He finally got quite wealthy. He also employed his mother at one of their key offices. Greg was 26 years old and one of the most successful people under 30 in his city. Greg decided that it was time to visit his old man. He’d been keeping track of his moves for a while but couldn’t quite figure out when he’d make his grand appearance. Greg drove up to Richards’ driveway, clutching the baseball bat in his passenger seat. When he encountered him, he had yet to decide what he would do. Even though he wasn’t sure what he wanted, his rage made him likely to use the bat. Whatever they were, they weren’t pleasant. As he sat in his automobile, thinking about where his next few steps would take him on his long journey, he witnessed something that shocked him to the core. Greg was never violent, whether he was a man or a child. But he’d been nursing this scar for so long that he’d never contemplated the idea of it mending. Richard deserved whatever came at the end of that baseball bat, given all of the suffering he had caused over the years. However, when he saw his father step out to take out the trash, feeble and dressed in rags, he knew his own doom. At this point, Greg recognized how far and low his quest for vengeance had led him. This terrible guy, who had nearly destroyed him and his mother, was undoubtedly no more. Even if he was there, was he worth all his efforts?
Greg saw the “for sale” sign in Richard’s yard and decided to put the bat down and pick up his phone. He contacted the number listed on the board and determined that Richard was in debt and that the house was being taken away from him in order to sell it and pay off his liabilities. Greg promptly left Richard’s property, grateful and aware that he had avoided making what may have been his worst mistake. Shortly thereafter, he bought Richard’s home. A few days later, Richard met with the buyer to complete the transaction. His heart fell as he stepped into the property agent’s office, where Tina and her kid awaited. Richard was at a loss for words, which would not have served him well. Greg declared himself as soon as he entered the room, urging him to leave the premises. “If I see you again, we’ll have a problem!” Greg stated. The words stayed in Tina’s mind as she watched Richard leave in humiliation, just like she had all those years earlier. What are the chances? she wondered.
