Amanda Guarascio and Dylan Parkinson decided to rescue a stray and starving puppy from the Evans Creek campground in Washington State.
Their rescue attempt would need patience and a lot of resourcefulness, but it would all be worth it in the end. Find out how the clever couple managed to catch the homeless dog by making him feel sorry for them.
Amanda wrote on Facebook about the circumstances that led to Baby Bear’s rescue:
“After hearing about him, Dylan and I drove over last night, and to our amazement, he was sitting in a tiny turn-off on the side of the road just where the girl said she had seen him,” Amanda said. “We spent an hour attempting to entice him with food, but it didn’t work.”
They left and returned with a pack of hot dogs, staying close to him all night. They departed at 3 a.m. and returned the next day with a new approach.
“I got down on the ground with my back to the pup, whom we have decided to call Bear (okay, Baby Bear), and gently began creeping backward towards where he was sleeping,” Amanda told me.
She feigned an injury to entice Baby Bear closer.
“I began whining and yawning (a soothing signal) and gradually moved closer and closer until I was resting on the adorable, tiny Baby Bear!” At one point, he stood up to find our shelter, recognizing me as a pathetic human female with no survival skills, and taking me under his wing!
“I had to transport him everywhere!” I had to lift him, get him into the truck, and we hugged until we arrived at the clinic.” “I had to take him inside again—all 57 pounds of him!”
Baby Bear was placed in a loving foster home at Useless Bay Sanctuary.
He immediately discovered his forever home with a wonderful family.
Because of Amanda and Dylan’s kindness, it’s a lovely happy ending. They gave their time and resources to save a life!
