Fans are shocked to discover that the homeless man in photos is Richard Gere: ‘I did not recognize him’

Fans are stunned after realizing that the homeless man in these photos is Richard Gere. ‘I wouldn’t have recognized him.’ More vintage images of Richard Gere dressed as a hobo are being shown around the world. Many people are surprised years later to learn who the star was that supported a stranger’s good deed.

Richard Gere, 74, has played a variety of characters that showcase his versatility. In 2014, he became homeless while in one of these positions. Many people were unaware at the time that it was a film, let alone that it starred Gere. Years later, our AmoMama readers are still surprised by how antique media depicts him in character. Gere was completely unrecognizable to the general public as he walked the streets of New York City. “Nobody glanced at me for more than forty minutes. I was in one of New York’s busiest neighborhoods. Richard Gere famously stated, “I wouldn’t have lasted 30 seconds if I had been there.” In some photographs, the “Runaway Bride” actress wears olive-colored pants, a long-sleeved top, a beige scarf, and a charcoal beanie.

Several photographs showed Gere sitting next to actor Ben Vereen, who portrayed a different homeless guy in the film. Gere also wore a little dirty raincoat. Further images show the actor holding disposable bags while walking about. During the filming, a few spectators caught sight of Gere walking past them in these photos. Most people were unaware that Gere was playing George, a father who wanted to reconcile his broken relationship with his daughter Maggie, played by actress Jena Malone.

While seeking sanctuary at “Bellevue Hospital,” a shelter for homeless men, George meets a fellow patient who helps him try to repair his relationship with his daughter. Gere performed this part in the film “Time Out of Mind.” Readers of AmoMama, who saw our most recent throwback piece of the historic scene even years after his identity became public, were skeptical that the homeless man was indeed Gere. One reader stated, “I wouldn’t have recognized him.” One more individual said, “Whoa! He appeared in the classic picture “Pretty Woman,” as I recall. Many individuals voiced their surprise and observation that Gere’s portrayal of George drew attention to the reality of homelessness in society. “Amazing. However, I am not surprised. That’s New York City for you. However, it is gritty. A Facebook reader said, “Really sad!” Another individual shared a similar sentiment, stating, “OMG…” “If this is true 😔.” I’m not sure what Hollywood is doing to these folks, but it’s pretty awful 😢.” Another person called Gere’s acts “amazing.” I’m glad he took the time to look at our society. While the film was still in production and Gere was just another homeless man on the streets, a kind-hearted French woman recognized him and brought him some food. rine Gombeau, flying from Paris to New York with her family, noticed Gere searching through a garbage bin at Grand Central Terminal, unaware that he was an actor playing a homeless guy in a film.

Gombeau, heartbroken by what she saw, decided to give Gere some of the remaining parts of a huge pizza that she, her husband, and their child had ordered from an Italian restaurant. “What’s in the bag?” As he approached the “unfaithful” star holding the pizza, Gere inquired. Gombeau recalls attempting to react in English but eventually responding in a mix of English and French, her mother tongue. The French guest confessed, “I said, ‘Je suis désolée [I am sorry], but the pizza is cold.” ” ‘Thank you very much,'” he said. “God bless you,” Gombeau added. When Gombeau received a copy of The Post’s piece about her charitable act two days later, she discovered that Gere was only portraying the homeless image. She stated that a Salisbury Hotel employee gave her the item when she was staying there. To her surprise, Gombeau spotted a photo of herself with Richard Gere in the piece. It was entranced. The story is ridiculous. “That something like this could happen is unbelievable,” she had earlier said.
