The new Princess Diana documentary examines the circumstances behind her death

A new documentary will examine the 1997 Paris automobile accident that killed Princess Diana at the age of 36, ahead of the anniversary of her death on August 31.

The series, titled ‘Who Killed Diana?’ will investigate the circumstances surrounding the Princess of Wales’ murder 27 years ago. It will include rare and, in some cases, first-ever interviews with numerous significant sources, according to Deadline, and will seek to shed new light on the case that captivated the world’s attention in 1997 and has remained so for over three decades.

Who Killed Diana? will be the first series in a larger franchise that will investigate “the shocking deaths of iconic figures, hoping to uncover new information about the circumstances,” Deadline said. The franchise will also investigate “the human stories and historical context at the center of these cases,” according to the site.

The creators behind Who Killed Diana? also worked on Netflix’s 2023 release Who Killed Jill Dando?, as well as other Netflix offerings such as Depp vs. Heard and The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe.

“This new franchise will not merely revisit the deaths of famous figures, but will actively drive the story forward with new voices and fresh insight into compelling and complex details,” said Jon Adler, head of talent and content development at EverWonder, which is producing the series with Empress Films.

Empress Films’ Emma Cooper, who is directing and executive producing Who Killed Diana?, told Deadline that Princess Diana “I am committed to approaching this beloved and iconic woman’s story with fresh perspectives, new voices, and previously untold information,” she told the crowd.

The accident in Paris claimed the lives of Princess Diana, Dodi Al Fayed, and driver Henri Paul. “There are very few moments like those in history,” royal historian Ingrid Seward, who knew the monarch firsthand, previously told people. “I can remember exactly where I was when I learned about Diana. “It affected everyone.”

Who Killed Diana?, a three-part documentary series, has no set release date.
