Scotty McCreery halted his performance to assist a concertgoer.
The former American Idol champion paused his performance after he witnessed a guy reportedly assaulting a woman in the audience at the Colorado State Fair in Pueblo, Colorado, on Saturday, August 24.
Concertgoer Jessica Rosario shared a video of McCreery, 30, interrupting the act at the start of his “It Matters To Her” performance.
“Scotty was talking about his wife’s [Gabi’s] favorite song in this video,” Rosario tells people exclusively. “As he began to sing, he noticed a man who had allegedly hit a woman. He immediately stopped the show, and security removed him.”
A McCreery spokesman told people that the singer has declined to comment on the event.
“Right here, that’s a lady you just hit, sir,” McCreery stated in the video, pointing to someone in the audience. “No; you just struck the lady. Police? Security? Is she okay? “Get the heck out of here!”
“On God’s green earth.” Are you going to the Scotty McCreery show? “You should inform the police officer who struck the woman.” That’s inappropriate.
“Did we get them?” We okay down there?” He searched for security before saying, “Whoever you are, hitting a lady is the definition of a coward.” “Get the heck out of here!” He then checked in with the audience before continuing his show.
People in front of the throng pointed to an individual who had finally been led out. The identities of the guy and woman remain undisclosed, and the male remains under arrest.
“We can confirm that an incident occurred at the Scotty McCreery concert where a man assaulted a woman and the performer halted the show,” Olga Robak, director of communications for the Colorado Department of Agriculture, tells PEOPLE.
Robak claims that Colorado State Fair security aided with crowd control. “This incident is still under investigation, and we cannot comment further.”
