Brad Pitt brought George Clooney and the GQ crew to his French vineyard for a photoshoot during his court struggle with Angelina Jolie over the property.
Pitt, 60, and Clooney, 63, reconnect in the forthcoming film Wolfs, and the co-stars discuss their long-standing friendship in a new cover story for GQ’s September edition.
The conversation and accompanying photograph took place at Château Miraval, a vast estate property in Correns, France, where he and Jolie, 49, married ten years ago in August 2014. After Jolie sold her portion of the vineyard in 2021, the couple is still fighting over it in court. The couple originally purchased the property in 2011.
According to GQ, Clooney and his wife Amal Clooney, who have seven-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, purchased a house near Château Miraval three years ago.
According to the GQ piece, Clooney arrived at the interview in a black Mercedes convertible and stated, “I literally drove from my house. I have been there for two years. I have never been here.” It’s nine minutes!”
According to GQ, Pitt pointed to the vineyard and property during the talk, saying, “I’m really just trying to enjoy the people that I love around me and just live.” The air is fresh, the grass is green, and I have somewhat become that person. I am unsure of how to articulate it without sounding corny.
GQ also released a behind-the-scenes video from the shooting, which showcased more of the huge site.
The winery’s legal proceedings accuse Pitt and his firm Mondo Bongo of turning Château Miraval “into their piggy bank.”
Tenute del Mondo, a subsidiary of the Stoli Group to which Jolie sold a 50% stake, made that claim in a countersuit filed in May, alleging that Pitt “caused millions of its funds to be spent on projects that benefit him personally, including more than $1 million on renovations for a swimming pool that only he uses.”
At the time, a person acquainted with the case claimed the suggestion Pitt stole from the vineyard is “absurd,” adding that the actor “built Miraval, and his connection to it is a key reason for its success.”
According to Jolie’s legal team, she attempted to sell her share of Miraval back to Pitt, but ultimately withdrew due to an NDA clause in the contract. In a July statement, her lawyer said Pitt should “end the fighting and finally put their family on a clear path toward healing” by abandoning his case.
Both Jolie and Pitt, whose divorce talks are still underway nearly eight years later, will attend the Venice Film Festival in September. The festival will include her performance in the Pablo Larra<0xC3><0xB1>n drama Maria, as well as Pitt’s Wolfs.
Wolfs opens in cinemas on September 20.
