My daughter chose her wealthy father over me and now begs me to take her back after he kicked her out.

A mother seeking assistance from the Reddit community recounted her story of being rejected by her daughter due to her inability to give the child a luxury lifestyle. Instead, her kid grew up spoilt with the woman’s ex-husband. Years later, when her father had kicked her out, the daughter knocked on the woman’s door and asked to be taken in.

A woman’s relationship with her husband terminated when their daughter, Maria, was 10 years old, as it does with many others. It was a terrible situation that she had to deal with. The woman was granted their home following her divorce, but she struggled financially as a stay-at-home mom. Fortunately, she found stability after landing a job in her field.

Nonetheless, she had to budget her expenses and did not overspend. Meanwhile, her husband had no trouble with money and made that clear to his daughter. Maria’s father lavished her with worldly possessions, so the youngster grew up with no financial constraints. This eventually strained the mother-daughter bond.

When the woman couldn’t afford to buy her daughter a $1000 laptop, Maria told her mother that her father was superior to her. In another case, Maria’s mother attempted to find her work, but it simply led in another dispute. Maria dropped out of high school when she was 17, which prompted a violent debate between her and her mother.

“She told me it was her life, and she can do whatever she wants,” the woman explained. Maria eventually left her mother and moved in with her father permanently as a result of the conflict. Despite the woman’s attempts to reach her daughter, Maria refused to reconcile, claiming she no longer had a mother. However, at the age of 21, Maria resolved to contact her mother. The woman recounted:

“Her father remarried and effectively kicked her out.” She called and we agreed to meet. She wishes to return.”While the mom was willing to live with her daughter again, she did not welcome Maria with warm arms. Instead, she enumerated the requirements Maria had to accomplish before she could move back in.

Maria’s criteria included obtaining her GED, working 25 or more hours per week, and attending school to plan her career. Maria also needed to purchase personal items and help with domestic tasks. She does not, however, have to pay the rent. Maria’s mother did not want her to party every night while she was getting her life together and planning for a great future. On weekends, she could do whatever she wanted.

Maria labeled her mother as insane and a terrible mother after learning about all of her mother’s ailments. “I informed her that she made it clear that she has no mother,” the woman went on to say. Maria stormed out on her mother at the end of the conversation. The woman eventually posted her dilemma on Reddit in the hopes of getting feedback from the online community forum,

and she received several words of support and encouragement. “Her reaction to your requirements suggests that she isn’t interested in a relationship.” One person stated, “She’s looking to mooch off of you and make your life hell again.”

Other Reddit users thought the terms were appropriate and mostly for Maria’s future benefit. Given her adult age, she should not have objected to her mother’s desires. Was the mother correct to provide her daughter a list of requests in exchange for her daughter returning home and living rent-free after her father kicked her out when she was 21? What would you have done if you were in the woman’s shoes?
