LATESTMy partner discovered that I rent out the house that my father gave me and demands half of the money by World Wide. The date is November 17, 2023. An 18-year-old lady let her boyfriend move into her apartment without informing him that she owned the two-story building and rented out the floor below her. When he discovered she was a landlord, he became enraged and demanded half of the rent she received.
A woman was lucky enough to inherit a two-story home made to look like an apartment from her father. She recognized the luxury and turned her property into a source of passive income by renting out the bottom floor for $500 per month while living on the second floor. According to the woman, she only charges this amount because the apartment is an hour’s drive from the city and 15 minutes from the nearest store. A comparable modern pad would cost between $600 and $700, thus her fee was reasonable.
At the age of 18, she requested her three-month boyfriend to move in with her. He was having problems with his living arrangements at the time and did not want to go back in with his parents. As a remedy, she offered him the opportunity to stay with her for as long as he needed. They’ve been living together for three months and he has no idea she owns the place. They share the shopping expenditure in half, despite the fact that she does not ask him to pay rent or utilities.
The woman kept the building ownership information from her spouse, figuring it was unimportant. She didn’t tell many people about it, except when the subject was brought up.
Her tenant, on the other hand, came on the door one day and informed her that the freezer had stopped working. Her partner, meanwhile, overheard their talk but said nothing.
When the woman went upstairs, her boyfriend inquired about the freezer, to which she replied that it could not be repaired. She went on to say:
“I told him no, but [the tenant] was going to buy a new one, and I would cover the cost.” He looked at me as if I were insane and questioned why I would pay for her freezer; I told him it was because I am her landlord [sic].”
At that time, the guy became enraged and began yelling at his girlfriend. He questioned why she withheld the facts from him and labeled her as evil. He continued to criticize her despite her apology. He also claimed that landlords were only interested in money and that he couldn’t believe he was dating one.
“He demanded that I give him 50% of the money I make from rent or else I was just as bad as he thought,” she went on to say. Despite her apologies for not alerting him that she owned the property, the woman’s boyfriend gave her the quiet treatment for a while. She chose to leave her relationship with her lover despite her first reservations. She did, however, request that her father drive by her house and stay in the driveway while they talked.
That day, her boyfriend demanded an apology and inquired as to why she refused to give him a portion of her earnings. “If you don’t rent out for the purpose of taking people’s money, you should have no problem giving any of that money away,” he went on to say. The woman questioned why her boyfriend would accept the money if he thought landlords were bad people who simply rented out spaces for money. She also requested whether she may donate the other half to a housing charity.
Despite her memory being hazy, the woman remembered her boyfriend calling her selfish and saying he regretted ever meeting her. He also threatened her friends and attempted, but failed, to smash a hole in the wall. The woman then texted her father, who came upstairs. “My boyfriend just laughed and told us both he never wants to see us again and that he was out,” she said.
Several Reddit members voiced their support for the woman. Some people also advised her to replace her locks regardless of whether or not her lover returned the keys. The woman accompanied the tenant downstairs to see the problem and advised the tenant to get a new one. Based on the receipt, the tenant would eventually be compensated for the freezer.
