Man leaves with constant pain and medical problems after surgery, and then he discovers something terrible…

A guy is suing a hospital for removing his appendix but also removing part of his intestines, causing him excruciating suffering.

George Piano, 72, had appendicitis and was sent to the University of Washington Medical Center for treatment.

After the December 2022 procedure, his belly hurt, and after multiple scans, he learned that the physician had removed part of his big intestine instead of his appendix.

After being untreated for so long, his colon started leaking into his belly, creating ‘much worse’ discomfort, and he acquired an infection.

The father of two had no choice but to endure four procedures and an ileostomy bag.

He suffered months of anguish and had a billiard-ball-sized abdominal wound from the surgeries.

He sued the hospital for the faulty operation and the negligence that delayed his cancer treatment.

The institution and doctors Nidhi Udyavar and Paul Herman are being sued.

Mr. Piano has not said how much he is suing them for, but his lawyer, Ed Moore, says similar lawsuits have cost $500,000 to $3 million.

I’ve had a hellish year, Mr. Piano said.

I’ve changed since this started.

“I feel lucky to be alive.

We didn’t want it to happen to others.

Someone has to halt this, take responsibility, and say, “This happened; we need to take steps to make it don’t happen again.”

Mr. Piano lost 40 pounds, experienced anxiety, and suffered short-term memory loss after the incident.

In court filings, he says his many medical issues ‘did not exist’ before the bungled procedure.

They also say he needed weekly home health physical therapy and nurses to monitor his vital signs after surgery.

Failure in an appendicitis procedure is uncommon. About 250,000 Americans are diagnosed with the surgery-required ailment each year.

UW Medicine tries to give the best treatment to all our patients, according to a spokeswoman.

We care passionately about their safety and well-being. No case details may be provided.”
