Houston automobile tragedy k*lls six, including ex-NFL player D.J. Hayden

An automobile accident killed former NFL cornerback DJ Hayden and five others.

A’major accident’ was reported near Fannin and Pierce Street in Houston, Texas, around 2 a.m. yesterday (Saturday, November 11).

Authorities said six individuals died in the crash involving two automobiles.

Houston Police Assistant Chief Megan Howard told a media conference that a black Acura SUV was southbound on Fannin St. and a black Chrysler 300 was eastbound on Pierce St.

The Chrysler jumped a red light and hit the SUV at ‘a high rate of speed’, according to police.

Asst. Chief Howard reported four deaths at the scene and four hospitalizations.

Two died after being taken to the hospital, she said.

“We have a female who’s in serious condition; she has life-threatening injuries, and there’s also a male at the hospital who investigators are interviewing right now.”

The Chrysler driver and a pedestrian ‘believed to be a homeless guy’ were declared dead at the site.

“We’re not sure who was the driver of the SUV,” she says. “That will be determined through the investigation.”

Assistant Chief Howard concludes: “Five men and one woman died.

“We’re seeking information from an SUV survivor. Another transported woman has life-threatening injuries and is in critical condition.”

The collision killed former NFL cornerback D.J. Hayden and University of Houston football players Zach McMillian and Ralph Oragwu.

Hayden’s 33-year-old death was discussed on X by the Las Vegas Raiders yesterday (November 11).

The post says: “The Raiders family mourns DJ Hayden’s death.

Despite a heart issue in a college practice, DJ, the Raiders’ 2013 first-round choice from Houston, played nine years in the NFL, including four with the Silver and Black.

“Everyone who knew DJ will remember his bravery, tenacity, and loyalty to his teammates.

“The prayers of the entire Raider Nation are with DJ’s loved ones at this time.”

The University of Houston Athletics published a statement mourning the three college players and supporting Jeffery Lewis, another crash victim.

The deaths of former football players D.J. Hayden, Zachary McMillian, and Ralph Oragwu earlier today have devastated the University of Houston community, according to Fox News. Our thoughts and prayers are with Jeffery Lewis as he recovers.

“We extend our deepest condolences to their families, friends, and loved ones as we collectively mourn the loss of three individuals who made an indelible impact on each life they touched.”
